Serug, 1) Sohn des Regu, Vater Nahors u. Urgroßvater Abrahams; er soll, als er sah, daß sich die Menschen Götzenbilder machten, durch welche die bösen Geister viel Wunder thaten, dagegen zuerst die Bilder solcher Menschen verehrt haben, welche sich durch Tugend u. Wohlthaten ausgezeichnet hatten. Daher hat man ihn als den Urheber der Todtenverehrung, des Götzendienstes u. der Vielgötterei angesehen. 2) Jakob von S., s. Jakob 47).
