Steckborn, 1) Bezirk im Schweizercanton Thurgau, zwischen dem Untersee u. den Bezirken Diessenhofen, Frauenfeld u. Gottlieben; Acker- u. Weinbau u. 11,300 Ew.; 2) Stadt u. Hauptort darin, am Untersee; hat Post, Kaufhaus (ein altes, wahrscheinlichrömisches Castell), Wollenweberei, Spitzenklöppelei, Stecknadelfabrik, Töpferei, Gerberei, Weinbau, Schifffahrt, Fischerei; 2000 Ew. Ehedem gab es Freiherren von S.; die Stadt kam dann an den Deutschen Orden, 1282 an das Kloster Reichenau u. trat dann zur Reformation. über.
