Syncelli (v. gr.), 1) Mönche, welche zusammen in einer Zelle wohnen; 2) seit dem 4. Jahrh. Geistliche, welche von den Patriarchen u. Bischöfen zur Aushülfe in ihre Wohnungen aufgenommen waren, also Hausgeistliche (in Rom Consiliarii), zugleich auch die Beichtväter u. die Aufseher über den Wandel ihrer Prälaten waren.
