Taaffe

Taaffe, ein der Katholischen Confession folgendes altes irländisches Geschlecht, welches 1628 zu Peers von Irland mit dem Titel Barone von Ballymote u. Lord Viscounts von Corren (beide Besitzungen in der Grafschaft Sligo) erhoben wurde u. 1662 den Grafenstand erlangte. Um die Mitte des 18. Jahrh. wendete es sich nach Österreich, wo es in Böhmen begütert ist u. zum jetzigen Chef hat: 1) Graf Karl, geb. 1823, ist österreichischer Oberstlieutenant in der Armee. 2) Graf Eduard, Bruder des Vor., geb. 24. Febr. 1833, war früher Statthaltereirath in Prag u. wurde 1863 Landeschef des Herzogthums Salzburg.
