Volōnes (lat., d.i. Freiwillige), an 8000 Sklaven, welche nach der Niederlage der Römer bei Cannä sich erboten gegen die Punier Kriegsdienste zu leisten. Nach diesem Beispiel nahm auch später der Kaiser Marcus Aurelius Sklaven in sein Heer auf u. nannte sie Voluntarii.
