Amontons (spr. Amongtong), Wilh., geb. in der Normandie 1663, Mechaniker; st. 1705; verbesserte den Barometer, Thermometer u. Hygrometer, gab auch in Paris die erste Idee zum Telegraphen; schr.: Sur la construction d'une nouv. clepsydre. etc., Par. 1695.
