Hessels, 1) (Hasselius), Joh. Leonhard, geb. zu Hasselt im Lüttichschen, studirte Theologie u. Philosophie in Löwen, wurde Professor daselbst u. st. 1551 in Trient, wohin er im Auftrag des Kaisers Karl V. zum Concil gegangen war; er schr.: De Nectarii facto super confessione. 2) Johann, geb. 1522 in Löwen od. Arras, war erst Professor der Theologie in der Abtei du Pare bei Löwen, wurde dann Präpositus des Theologischen Collegs zu Löwen u. nachher Bischof von Ypern; er wurde 1563 zum Concil nach Trient geschickt, dem er bis zu dessen Ende beiwohnte, u. st. 1566. Er schr. mehre Streitschriften, Commentare zum 1. Brief an Timotheus u. zum Evangelium des Matthäus, auch einen Katechismus.
