Kukunor, 1) (Kukunorsee, Blauer See), See in der Mongolei, Land Tangut, mehr als 30 QM. groß; 2) (Kukunormongolen, Khoschoten, Sifanen), Volk an der West- u. Südwestgrenze der Mongolei; ihr Land, auch Tangut od. Sifan genannt, gehört zum Chinesischen Reiche. Die Kukunormongolen durchstreifen meist als Nomaden ihr wildes Gebirgsland, in welchem die Quellbezirke des Hoangho u. Yantsekiang liegen.
