Scitaminĕae, 59. Familie in Reichenbachs Pflanzensystem, 19. Klasse bei Endlicher; Kräuter, zuweilen baumartig, mit einfachem, beblättertem Schafte, welcher auch wohl sehr kurz od. fast ganz fehlt, durch die stehen gebliebene Basis der abgefallenen Blätter oft umscheidet, die Scheibe der umscheidenden Blätter ganzrandig, einnervig, mit sehr vielen einfachen, schief parallel von der Rippe zum Rande laufenden Adern, im jungen Zustande tutenförmig eingerollt. Blüthen zwitterlich, in Ähren, Trauben od. Rispen, von scheidigen Deckblättern umgeben; Blüthenhülle korollenartig, oberständig, unregelmäßig, bald einfach u. sechstheilig mit sechs Staubgefäßen, bald doppelt, die äußere dreitheilig u. derber, die innere sechstheilig mit nur einem Staubgefäße. Fruchtknoten dreifächerig, Kapsel dreifächerig, Samen in jedem Fache einzeln od. zahlreich, mit Eiweiß. Diese Klasse besteht aus den Familien der Zingiberaceae, Cannaceae u. Musaceae.
