Solis y Ribadeneyra, Antonio de S., geb. 1610 in Alcala de Henares von adeligen Eltern, studirte in Salamanca Jurisprudenz, widmete sich aber später der dramatischen Literatur u. dem Theater u. wurde Calderons Freund u. Nachahmer; nachmals verließ er das Theater wieder u. wurde Secretär beim Grafen von Oropesa, Vicekönig von Navarra, u. dann bei König Philipp IV., denen Beiden er sich durch Gelegenheitsstücke empfahl; er wurde 1661 von der Regentin zum Historiographen Beider Indien ernannt, 1667 Geistlicher u. Jesuit u. starb 19. April 1686 in Madrid.
