Somssich

Somssich (Somsics, spr. Schomschitsch), Paul, geb. 1819 im Schümegher Comitat, studirte Jurisprudenz, übernahm 1830 ein Comitatsamt, trat in der Landtagsperiode 1832–36 in streng conservativem Sinne als Gegner jeder Reform auf, wurde nach dem Landtage von 1844 bei der ungarischen Statthalterei angestellt, 1847 vom Comitat Baranya in den Landtag gewählt u. übernahm dort sofort die Führung der Regierungspartei, suchte aber vergeblich dem hereinbrechenden Sturm der Opposition entgegen zu treten u. mußte sich sehr bald vor Kossuth zurückziehen. Nach der Märzrevolution trat er gänzlich ins Privatleben zurück u. wirkte nur noch publicistisch für die alte Verfassung des Landes.
