Valpy (spr. Walpi), A. J., geb. zu Reading in Berkshire, errichtete zuerst in London eine Druckerei zur Herausgabe griechischer u. lateinischer Klassiker u. veranstaltete z.B. einen neuen Abdruck der Klassiker in usum Delphini, eine neue Ausgabe von Stephanus' griechischem Thesaurus u.m.a. Auch begründete er das Classical-Journal u. gab[350] seit mehren Jahren eine jährliche Sammlung merkwürdiger Flugschriften (The pampleteer) heraus.
