Aricĭa (Aricīa), alte Stadt Latiums, am Berge Albanus, an der Appischen Straße; sollte nach Ein. von einem Siculer Archigenes, nach And. von Hippolytos gegründet u. nach dessen Gemahlin, der Nymphe Aricia, genannt worden sein. Es war Rom feindlich, erlag aber u. wurde eine Municipalstadt; Sulla umgab sie mit Mauern; j. la Riccia od. Ariccia. Dabei der Aricinische Hain (Nemus Triviae), der Diana (daher deren Beiname Aricīna) geweiht. Der Oberpriester (Nemoralis rex) mußte ein entlaufener Sklav sein, der seinen Vorgänger meuchlings od. im Zweikampf getödtet hatte; er mußte jährlich einmal in dem Haine mit Jedem einen Zweikampf bestehen, der einen Zweig von einem gewissen Baume des Hains gebrochen hatte. In dem Haine war ein See, Aricīnus lacus. Der nahe Aricinische Hügel war ein Bettlerposten, wo Bettler die auf der Appischen Straße. Reisenden um Almosen ansprachen. Vgl.
