Barnwell (spr. Barnuell), 1) District im südwestlichen Theile des Staates Süd-Carolina in den Vereinigten Staaten, an den Savannah-River grenzend, welcher es von Georgien trennt; Flächeninhalt: 70 QM.; Bodenoberfläche hügelig: Boden ziemlich fruchtbar, bes. in der Nähe der Flüsse Savannah-River, Süd-Edisto-River etc.; Producte: bes. Baumwolle u. Fichtenholz; der Savannah ist hier schiffbar u. der District wird von der Süd-Carolina-Eisenbahn durchschnitten, die nach Charleston führt; 26,608 Ew. (wovon 14,008 Sklaven); 2) (B. Courthouse), Hauptstadt im vorigen District, mit einigem Handel, einem Rathhaus u. mehreren Kirchen.
