Carthamīn (Tellerroth, Tassenroth), rother Färbestoff, wird, nebst dem gelben, in Wasser löslichen, aus dem Saflor(Carthamus tinctoreus) gewonnen; verbleicht leicht durch Luft u. Licht, nicht in Wasser u. Säuren (welche aber die Farbe erhöhen), aber in kohlensauren Alkalien mit gelber Farbe, in Alkohol u. Äther löslich. Mit gepulvertem Talk gemengt, wird das C. als rothe Schminke angewendet.
