Emporĭum (lat., v. gr. Emporion), 1) Handelsplatz; daher Empŏroi, Großhändler; Emporii ius, s. Stadteinlagerecht. 2) (Emporiae), in Rom Hafen- u. Handelsplatz an dem Tibris, außerhalb an der Porta trigemina; 3) Pflanzstadt der Phokäer od. Massilier, im Gebiet der Indigeten (Hispania terracon.), mit Tempel der Diana. Hier 196 v. Chr. Sieg der Römer unter M. Porc. Cato über die Spanier, worauf die Stadt erobert wurde; jetzt Ampurias.
