Issedŏnes

Issedŏnes (a. Geogr.), Volk in Scythia extra Imaum; sie hatten die eigenthümliche Sitte, daß sie, wenn der Vater einer Familie starb, dessen Fleisch verzehrten, den Schädel vergoldeten u. durch jährliche Opfer verehrten; die Weiber waren regierungsfähig. Durch sie erhielten die Griechen die Waaren aus Südostasien am Jaxartes.
