Phenyl

Phenyl, C12 H5, das hypothetische Radical der Phenylverbindungen. Das Oxyd des Phenyls ist das Phenyloxyd, 2 C12 H5 O, welches als Phenyläther betrachtet werden kann, die Wasserstoffverbindung, Phenylwasserstoff, C12 H6, ist das Benzin. Das Phenyloxydhydrat, C12 H5 O + HO, ist die Phenylsäure (s.d.), welche mit Basen Salze bildet, z.B. phenylsaures Kali = C12 H5 O + KO, phenylsaures Äthyloxyd (Phenetol, Salithol), = C12 H5 O + C4 H5 O, phenylsaures Methyloxyd (Anisol) = C12 H5 O + C2 H3 O, auch mit Säuren Salze gibt, als z.B. essigsaures Phenyloxyd, C4 H3 O3 + C12 H5 O, u. als Phenylalkohol anzusehen ist. Mit Chlor verbindet sich das Phenyl zu Phenylchlorür = C12 H5 Cl; die Amidverbindung ist das Phenylamin (Anilin) = C12H5 + NH2. Durch Substitution von Chlor, Untersalpetersäure etc., entstehen aus der Phenylsäure wiederum zahlreiche Phenylverbindungen, Chlorophenassäure, C12 H4 ClO + HO, Nitrophenissäure (Pikrinsäure, s.d.), C12 H2 (3 NO4) O + HO, u.a.m. Phenylcyanür ist Benzonitril.
