Phthisis

Phthisis (Phthoë, gr.), 1) Auszehrung, s.d. 1) d), die in einem allgemeinen Verderben eines Hauptorgans, bes. in Vereiterung desselben, u. einem dadurch unterhaltenen chronischen Fieber ihren nächsten Grund hat. Man unterscheidet P. pituitōsa (Schleimschwindsucht), P. purulenta (Eiterschwindsucht) u. m.; eben so nach den Organen, deren Verderbniß die nächste Ursache der Krankheit ist, P. abdominālis, P. hepatĭca, P. laryngēa, P. pulmonālis, P. renalis, P. uterina u.a.m.; 2) bes. die Lungensucht (sd.), auch Luftröhrenschwindsucht; daher Phthisiologie, Lehre von der Auszehrung, Lungenschwindsucht; Phthisisch, an der Auszehrung leidend; Phthisische Architektur, s. Architektur 4).
