Martène (spr. Martähn), Edmund, geb. 1654 in St. Jean de Losne, wurde 1672 Benedictiner in Rheims, arbeitete dann in St. Germain des Pres u. im Kloster Marmoutier; von da wurde er wegen einer Schrift nach Evron verwiesen, aber bald zu gelehrten Arbeiten nach Rouen berufen u. kehrte dann nach Marmoutier zurück; 1708–24 bereiste er mit Ursin Durand Frankreich, um Urkunden zur Gallia christiana zu sammeln, u. st. 20. Juni 1736 in St. Germain des Pres. Er schr.: Commentarius in regulam St. Benedicti, Par. 1690; De antiquis monachorum ritibus, Lyon 1690, 2 Bde.; La vie du venerabile P.
