Pyin, eine im Eiter unterschiedene Substanz, wird beim Kochen nicht gefällt, Salzsäure u. Salpetersäure bewirken in geringer Menge Trübung der Lösung, welche im Überschuß der Säure verschwindet; Essigsäure u. Alkohol, sowie essigsaures Bleioxyd u. Quecksilberchlorid geben Niederschläge. Das P. ist für den Eiter nicht charakteristisch u. vielleicht von Schleimstoff nicht zu unterscheiden.
