Aklat (Achlat, Chalat), Stadt im Ejalet Wan von türkisch Armenien, an der Nordseite des Sees Wan, am Berge Siban, mit doppelten Mauern u. Gräben, zwischen welchen ein Castell; etwa 10,000 Ew. u. Ruinen vieler früher Herrlichkeit. — A. soll früher eine große Stadt (über 200,000 Ew.), Residenz der armenischen Könige gewesen sein u. namentlich soll Dschamasp, Oheim Nurschiwans, daselbst geherrscht haben; 740 v. Chr. erhielt die aus Mohan eingewanderte Familie Tschoban die Herrschaft. 1099 machte sich Sokman-Kothbi unabhängig u. nahm den Titel König von Armenien an; sein Enkel Sokman II. st. 1183 ohne Erben, worauf die Herrschaft bis 1207 getheilt war, dann ergaben sich die Bewohner A-s an Nodschem Eddin; 1245 eroberten die Mongolen das Land u. gaben es den georgischen Fürsten zu Lehn. Durch die Schlacht von Tschaldrian, die Selim I. über Schah Ismael gewann, kam A. an die Osmanen; zwar eroberten es die Perser 1548, aber Solyman II. nahm es bald wieder u. baute in der Nähe.
