Bel, 1) Matthias, geb. 1684 zu Ocsowa bei Neusohl in Ungarn: studirte in Halle, wo er Lehrer am Waisenhause wurde, erhielt 1708 eine Berufung nach Neusohl als Rector am geistlichen Seminar u. wurde 1714 Rector am evangelischen Lyceum zu Presburg u. Prediger der evangelisch-deutschen Gemeinde; er st. daselbst 1749. Seine Forschungen auf dem Gebiete der ungarischen Geschichte u. Statistik sind von hoher wissenschaftlicher Bedeutung. Er schr.: De vetere literatura hunnoscythica, Lpz. 1718; Hungariae antiquae et novae prodromus, Nürnb. 1723; Apparatus ad historiam Hungariae, Passau 1735–46; Notitia Hungariae novae, Wien 1735–42, 4 Bde.
