Callcott

Callcott (spr. Kahlcott), Aug. Walt., geb. 1779 in Kensington in England, Maler, bes. von Landschaften, die sich durch einen klaren, heiteren Ton u. seine Luftperspective auszeichnen. Er machte 1827 eine Reise nach dem Continent, wurde 1837 in den Adelstand erhoben u. zum Conservator der königlichen Sammlungen gemacht u. st. 1844 in Kensington. Er malte vorzüglich Strandpartien Hollands u. der Themse, auch italienische Landschaften u. Figurenbilder, darunter holländische Küste mit Fischweibern, Hafen von Livorno, der Gardasee, Raphael u. Fornarina. Viele seiner Bilder sind durch Stich vervielfältigt.
