Norton (spr. Nohrin), 1) Andrews, geb. 1786 in Hingham in Massachusetts; studirte Theologie, war einige Zeit Lehrer am Bowdoin College, später Bibliothekar u. von 1819 bis 1830 Professor der biblischen Literatur an der Harvard Universität; er privatisirte dann in Cambridge u. st. 1853 zu Newport in Rhode Island. Er schr.: The evidences of the genuineness of the Gospel, Cambr. 1837, n.A. 1846–48, 3 Bde.; Statement of reasons for not believing the doctrines of Trinitarians concerning the nature of God and the person of Christ, Boston 1833; auch mehre Gedichte, die meist religiösen Charakter tragen. 2) Karoline Elisabeth Sarah, Tochter Thomas Sheridans, Enkelin des berühmten Richard Brinsley Sheridan, geb. 1808, schrieb schon im 15. Jahre anonym eine Satyre Rout of the Dandies (London 1824); 1827 vermählte sie sich mit Sir George Chapple N., dem Bruder des Lord Grantley; die Ehe wurde 1840 getrennt wegen eines unerlaubten Verhältnisses mit Lord Melbourne, dessen Bekanntschaft die N. 1831 gemacht hatte. Sie schr. noch das Gedicht The sorrows of Rosalie, London 1825; die romantische Dichtung The undying one, 1830; The wife, 1835, u. The dream and other poems, 1840; das Gedicht The child of the Islands, 1845; The adventures of a Wood Sprite u.
