Margunĭus

Margunĭus: Margunĭus, Maximus, geb. 1522 in Kreta, bildete sich in Venedig u. Padua zum Theologen, errichtete Anfangs in Venedig eine griechische Buchdruckerei, welche jedoch bald durch eine Feuersbrunst zerstört wurde, worauf er nach seiner Heimath zurückkehrte u. Klostergeistlicher wurde. Hier schrieb er mehre theologische Schriften über die Ursachen der Trennung der Morgenländischen u. Abendländischen Kirche u. wandte sich später zu seiner weiteren Ausbildung nach Rom; da er sich hier vergebens um die. Unterstützung der Päpste Gregor XIII. u. Sixtus V. bemüht hatte, ging er nach Constantinopel, wurde 1589 Bischof von Kythera (Cerigo) u. st. 1602 in Kreta. Es gibt von ihm ein Μηνολόγιον u. Βίοι ἁγίων, sowie eine [kleine Sammlung heiliger Dichtungen in altgriechischer Sprache (Leyd. 1592 u. Ὕμνοι Ἀνακρεόντιοι, Augsb. 1600).
