Retinol

Retinol (Harzthran, Harztheer), C8H4, ein mit dem Benzol isomerer Kohlenwasserstoff, welcher bei der trockenen Destillation des Harzes übergeht u. in dem Harzöl enthalten ist. Es erscheint als eine farblose Flüssigkeit von 0,9 specifischem Gewicht u. von ölartiger, thraniger Beschaffenheit; siedet gegen 236 bis 244° u. enthält 92,3 Procent Kohlenstoff, ist ohne Geruch u. Geschmack, färbt sich am Lichte nicht u. bringt auf Papier einen Fettfleck hervor, welcher nach einiger Zeit verschwindet. Es absorbirt mehre Gase, namentlich schwefeligsaures Gas; beim Behandeln mit Salpetersäure in der Wärme bildet sich keine Cyanwasserstoffsäure (Unterschied vom Retinyi), sondern eine ölige, stark gefärbte Flüssigkeit.
