Ruddiman

Ruddiman, Thomas, geb. im October 1674 zu Raggel in der schottischen Grafschaft Banff, besuchte die Universität Aberdeen u. wurde nach Beendigung seiner Studien erst Hauslehrer, dann Lehrer im Kirchspiel Lawrence-Kirk. Nach einigen Jahren erhielt er eine Stellung in Edinburg an der dortigen Advocate's Library, verließ dieselbe aber 1707, um Auctionator zu werden. 1715 errichtete er mit einem seiner Brüder eine Buchdruckerei u. wurde einige Jahre darauf Buchdrucker der Universität. Nachdem er 1732–51 noch Bibliothekar der Advocate's Library gewesen u. in den letzten Jahren seines Lebens noch in mancherlei Streitigkeiten verwickelt worden war, starb er 19. Jan. 1757 in Edinburg.
