Sigtun

Sigtun (Sigtuna), 1) so nannte Odin nach seiner Einwanderung zu König Gylfe in Schweden den Aufenthaltsort, welchen er sich am Mälarsee wühlte, wo er sich einen Tempel u. Opferplatz nach der Asen Sitte errichtet hatte; jetzt 2) Stadt in der Voigtei Füsingen des schwedischen Län Stockholm, am Mälarsee, hat etwa 450 Ew., welche einigen Handel, Fischerei, Töpferei u. Ackerbau treiben. S. war ehemals Hauptstadt des Reiches u. königliche Residenz, wurde 1008 von Olaf dem Heiligen, dem Könige von Norwegen, zerstört; dann wieder erbaut, wurde es 1187 (1188 od. 1189) von den Esthen u. Karelen geplündert (dahersollen die ehernen Kirchthüren in Nowgorod [s.d. 3] sein) u. verbrannt (s. Schweden S. 550), doch später (auf einem anderen Platze) wieder aufgebaut.
