Wood (spr. Wud), 1) Grafschaft im Staate Virginia (Nordamerika), im Nordwesten durch den Ohio River vom Staate Ohio getrennt, 20 QM.; von den Little Kanawha u. Hughes Rivers u. den French u. Lee's Creeks durchflossen; hügelig u. sehr fruchtbar; Producte: Mais, Weizen, Hafer, Rindvieh, Steinkohlen; Industrie in Holz, Eisen u. Leder; die Nordwest Virginiabahn durchschneidet die Grafschaft; 1850: 9450 Ew., worunter 373 Sklaven; Hauptort: Parkersburg; 2) neu organisirte Grafschaft des Staates Texas, ungefähr 32 QM.; im Südwesten vom Sabine River begrenzt; große Prairien; genannt nach Obrist Wood, dem zweiten Gouverneur des Staates; Hauptort: Quittman; 3) Grafschaft im Staate Ohio, 28 QM.; im Nordwesten vom Maumee River begrenzt, vom Potage River u. den Beaver u. Toussaint Creeks durchflossen; schöne Waldungen, sehr fruchtbar; Producte: Mais, Weizen, Hafer, Rindvieh; die Dayton Michiganbahn u. die Junction-Lake Shorebahn durchschneiden die Grafschaft; 1850: 9157 Ew.; Hauptort: Perrysburg.
