Harrisburg (spr. Härrisborg), 1) Städtischer Bezirk mit Postamt in der Grafschaft Lewis des Staates New York (Nordamerika); 1500 Ew.; 2) Hauptstadt des Staates Pennsylvanien u. Gerichtssitz der Grafschaft Dauphin, am Susquehanna River; Capitol mit Staatsbibliothek, County-, Gerichts- u. Gefangenhaus, Arsenal, 12 Kirchen, zahlreiche Schulen, lebhafter Handel u. Gewerbthätigkeit, Wasserleitung; die Pennsylvania Eisenbahn verbindet H. mit Lancaster, die Lebanon Valley Eisenbahn mit Reading, die Cumberland Valley Eisenbahn mit Chambersburg; zwei Brücken führen über den Susquehanna River; 1785 von John Harris gegründet, 1808 incorporirt, wurde 1812 Hauptstadt des Staates; 1853 gegen 9000 Ew.; 3) mehrere kleinere Orte in verschiedenen anderen der Vereinigten Staaten.
