Portal, Anton, geb. 1742 zu Gaillac im Departement du Tarn, wurde Professor der Anatomie in Paris, 1770 Professor der Medicin am Collége de France, 1776 Adjunct der Professur der Anatomie am Garten des Königs, unter der Restauration Leibarzt bei Monsieur, später bei Ludwig XVIII, u. bei Karl X. u. st. 1832. Er war Begründer der Akademie der Medicin u. beständiger Präsident derselben u. schr.: Histoire de l'anatomie et de la chirurgie, Par. 1770–73, 7 Bde.; Cours d'anatomie médicale, ebd. 1804, 5 Bde.; Observations sur la nature et sur le traitement de la raye, Yverdun 1797 (deutsch, von Spielmann, Lpz. 1782); Du rachitisme, Par. 1779 (deutsch, Weißenf. 1798); He la phthisie pulmonaire, Par. 1792, 2.
