Avĭla, 1) Johann v. A., geb. zu Almodavar del Campo bei Toledo, zu Anfang des 16. Jahrh., verschenkte Alles u. predigte mit großem Beifall, bes. Mönchstugenden, daher Apostel von Andalusien genannt; er st. 1599 zu Montilla. 2) A. v Zuniga (Don Luiz d'A.), geb. zu Placencia in Estremadura, unter Kaiser Karl V. General u. Gesandter bei Paul IV. u. Pius IV. Er war in dem Geleite des Kaisers auf dessen Feldzuge in Afrika u. in Deutschland gegen den Schmalkaldenschen Bund u. beschrieb. die Begebenheiten desselben in Comentarios de la guerra de Alemana hecha por Carlos V. en 1546 y 1547, Venedig 1548 (deutsch durch den Herzog. Philipp Magnus von Braunschweig, Wolfenbüttel 1552, auch 1853). 3) Gil Gonzalez d'A., Canonicus in Salamanca u. königl. Historiograph in Castilien u. Indien, st. 1658; schrieb außer den Biographien Heinrichs III. von Castilien (Madr. 1638) u. Philipps III. noch Hist. de Salamanca, 1606, u. Teatro ecclesiastico de la primitiva iglesia de las Indias occidentales, 1649–56, 2 Bde.
