Barotse-Land

Barotse-Land, dörferreiches Thal im Innern SAfrikas, wird von dem Liambeyflusse gebildet, ist ungefähr 20 deutsche Ml. breit u. erstreckt sich etwa vom 13–16° südl. Br. Die Hauptstadt Nariele zählt 1000 Ew., liegt nahe bei Katongo, der östlichsten portugiesischen Handelsstation. Das Thal ist alljährlich Überschwemmungen ausgesetzt u. gewährt zahlreichen Heerden vortreffliche Weiden. An den Thalabhängen, so wie auf den Plateaux, welche sich 2–300 Fuß erheben, gedeihen Zuckerrohr, Bananen, süß- Kartoffeln, Manioc, Hirse, Mais, Korn etc. Die Bewohner stehen unter einem Häuptling u. sind wohlwollend u. zuvorkommend.
